Jackson tears up as she reflects on faith, family and sacrifices

Supreme Court Nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson became emotional on Tuesday (March 22) as she reflected on the sacrifices she’s made as a judge and a mother, and the sacrifices her grandparents made that enabled her to be nominated for a historic historic post. If confirmed, she’d be the first Black woman on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Democratic New Jersey Senator Cory Booker asked Jackson how she pushes through tough moments in life where she gets “knocked down.”

Judge Jackson replied by saying she turns to her “faith” and reflects on the many sacrifices her grandparents made. “(They) made sure their children went to college, even though they never had those opportunities,” she said. “I stand on the shoulders of people from that generation.” She was seen wiping a tear from her eye after making those remarks.

Jackson also reflected on the sacrifices she makes as a mother of two daughters while being a judge, and said there will be “recitals” that are missed, and work emergencies at birthdays.

“I hope for them, seeing me — hopefully you will confirm me — moved to the Supreme Court, that they can know you don’t have to be perfect.”
