Pink-coloured chocolate flowing from a fountain, heart-shaped lollipops and cake with rose petals for icing – it’s definitely Valentine’s Day at one of the ‘closed loop’ hotels for media and staff at the Winter Olympics.
“It makes me feel good, they’re so cute and it makes me think of the loved ones back home, and it gives me a fun way to celebrate,” said data specialist Tara Kelly on Monday (February 14), who was at the Olympics working for official timekeeper Omega.
Pastry chef of Nanshanli Condotel’s restaurant, Wei Xijun, said he wanted to create a festive atmosphere for his foreign guests.
The thousands of athletes, staff and media who entered the COVID-19 protected bubble for the Olympics are expected to adhere to constant mask-wearing and social distancing as they are completely cut off from the outside world, restricted to only move among the ‘bubble’. But to try and get them in the mood for love, staff at the Nanshanli Condotel in the mountains of Zhangjiakou, the city hosting ski and snowboard events, gave the desserts at the dinner buffet a pink and red makeover.
