HOUSTON – A robbery suspect took Harris County Sheriff’s deputy on a chase that ended in a deadly crash in northeast Houston Wednesday night.
An HPD officer said the northeast units received a call at 10:53 pm about a major crash at the intersection of Lockwood Drive and Laura Koppe Road.
Officers arrived at the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation, during which, they learned that a deputy was on his way back from downtown and heard a call about a robbery that occurred in Harris County’s jurisdiction.
He exited the freeway at 59 in Tidwell where he found a man entering a vehicle outside a CVS store. The vehicle matched the description and as officer tried to stop it, the suspect did not comply and a pursuit ensued.
The deputy was driving eastbound pursuing the vehicle and as he entered the intersection, there was a collision with the black vehicle.
After the initial collision, some other vehicles were also struck.
In the black vehicle, a female was deceased at the scene and two children sustained injuries.
Houston police said the deputy also had some injuries while three other persons suffered minor bruises.
Investigation into robbery incident and deadly crash is underway.
