Trump calls for Arizona election decertification despite latest audit results

Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday (September 25) repeated his false claims of election voter fraud in the crucial state of Arizona, one day after a review of results by his own allies in the Republican Party reaffirmed that Trump lost the state to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

“It is clear in Arizona that they must decertify the election,” Trump told a large crowd in Perry, Georgia, where he was campaigning for several Republican Senate hopeful. “Those responsible for wrongdoing must be held accountable,” Trump said.

The review on Friday (September 24) capped a widely panned effort spurred by Trump’s false claims of voter fraud.

While finding the overall vote tallies largely matched up, the report highlighted a series of alleged problems, including 10,342 potential voters who voted in different counties.

Trump, who had predicted the Arizona inquiry would substantiate his claims, had issued a statement on Friday that appeared at odds with the review’s findings, calling it “a big win for democracy and a big win for us.”

On Saturday, it appeared as if he was continuing to ignore the overall conclusions of Friday’s review, repeating his frequent comments about so-called “fake news”.

The report’s conclusion will dismay Trump supporters who pushed for the review, many in the expectation that it would prove his unfounded assertions that he was robbed of re-election due to orchestrated fraud. So far no such proof has been produced either by Trump or his backers.
