Suspect not found inside apartment after SWAT standoff

HOUSTON – A murder suspect was not found inside the apartment after hours-long standoff with a SWAT team in the Montrose area. 

Houston Police responded to a shooting around 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Richmond Avenue. A man was moved to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. 

An eyewitness told police that a male and female having some sort of argument when another person came down from his apartment and approached the two individuals.

The man then went back upstairs into his apartment, grabbed a gun and shot the male victim for unknown reasons.

Police were told the man ran inside a nearby apartment. For several hours, authorities tried to get the suspect to come out, but there was no response.

SWAT and hostage negotiation teams were also called for assistance.

After securing a search warrant for the apartment, the authorities got inside but the suspect was not found. 

According to HPD’s Homicide Division, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Investigators are now processing the apartment for any potential evidence.
