A family of three in New York City was among those killed after a night of torrential rain and severe flooding spawned by the remnants of Hurricane Ida.
Police say the storm flooded that family’s basement apartment in the Queens borough. A toddler was among those killed.
The names of the family members have not been released yet.
“They were a quite nice family,” said neighbor Samsuil Chowdhury. “They used to walk and go to the restaurants.”
Ida’s remnants dumped 7.13 inches of rain on New York City on Wednesday (September 1), the National Weather Service said. It was the city’s fifth highest daily amount, it said.
