Woman detained for stealing Baytown police cruiser

HOUSTON – A woman has been detained after she allegedly stole a police SUV in Baytown late Monday, Sargeant J.C. Fischer with HPD said.

Officer said Baytown Police Department informed HPD about one of their SUVs being stolen. The woman took SUV as she was discharged from a Baytown hospital.

Houston police were informed about an area where the suspect may have gone to see her family. 

After arriving at the location, HPD officers located the stolen vehicle in the area with its emergency lights on.

Officers attempted to make a stop but she refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The suspect drove northbound on the North Freeway, at times reaching speeds up to 100 mph. During the chase, she also talked with Baytown PD dispatch through police radio. 

HPD officers attempted to make a PIT maneuver but speed was slow to conduct successful maneuver.

The woman made her way from southeast Houston to the north side before finally stopping along I-45 North near Sawdust. She was then detained without further incident.
