Man taken into custody after SWAT standoff, no hostages found

HOUSTON – A man has been taken into custody after a standoff with the SWAT team in northeast Houston Tuesday night.

Initially, the Houston Police Department was notified about a shooting incident in the 9500 block of Everglade Drive.

Arriving officers found a running car in the driveway of a residence and as they approached the house, the suspect shouted he had three hostages and would shoot them.

Officers sought assistance from SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team were to deal with the situation.

The team spoke with the suspect over loudspeaker, and at some point, SWAT broke into the front door. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

No hostages were found inside the home. Only a rifle was found while searching the home, however, it is unclear if it was used in the incident.

No charges have been filed against the suspect at this time.
