The U.S. Department of Defense released on Thursday (May 6) video of migrant families and children undergoing processing procedures at a facility in southeastern Texas, near the U.S.-Mexico border.
According the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Donna Processing Facility is a temporary structure set up to accommodate the needs of Mexican and Central American migrants surging over the border.
The facility is “part of the ongoing response to the current border security and humanitarian effort”, the agency said.
On Friday (May 7) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a virtual meeting to explore joint approaches to containing a sharp increase in migrant arrivals at the U.S. southern border.
Mexico has been pressing Washington to invest in Central America and southern Mexico to create incentives for people not to migrate, as well as for the United States to create a pathway to legal residency or citizenship for immigrant workers.
