Priyanka Chopra, James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston were among the stars who arrived on a pared-back British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) red carpet ahead of the ceremony airing on Sunday (April 11).
Many of the celebrities present on the socially-distanced carpet also presented awards at the show, held in the Royal Albert Hall, including actors David Oyelowo and Richard E. Grant.
Diversity has been at the forefront of discussions about awards season this year, after an outcry last year when BAFTA presented an all-white acting contenders list, more than half of this year’s 24 nominees are actors of colour.
Chopra said she believes improvements still need to be made in the industry.
The Indian actress said “entertainment should look like what the world looks like” and “the world is an incredible mix of people from everywhere”.
This year’s awards show is split across two nights.
On Saturday night (April 10), awards were handed out to those involved in the creative process in film-making while the main prizes will be announced on Sunday, when director Ang Lee will receive the BAFTA Fellowship.
