Earl and Countess of Wessex view flowers outside chapel on eve of prince’s funeral

The Earl and Countess of Wessex on Friday (April 16) visited St George’s Chapel where flowers and tributes have been laid out on the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral.

Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, were joined by their daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, as they read messages from mourners.

The funeral, which will be broadcast life, will take place at the chapel at Windsor Castle at 3 p.m. (1400GMT) on Saturday (April 17).

As planned, it will be a ceremonial royal funeral, rather than a state funeral, with most of the details in keeping with Prince Philip’s personal wishes.

Prince Edward will be involved in the procession, following the Duke of Edinburgh’s coffin from the State Entrance of the castle to the chapel.

The procession also includes Philip’s other children – Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne – along with grandsons William and Harry.

On Sunday (April 11) Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, told well-wishers outside a private church service in Windsor that her father-in-law Prince Philip’s final moments were ‘gentle’.
