Remembering the Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla

TEXAS– Today marks 26 years since Selena Quintanilla’s horrific death.

Before her demise at the hands of her former fan club manager Yolanda Saldivar’, Selena was well on her way to stardom having just performed in front of 66,000 people at the Houston Astrodome in the US, a then-stadium record for all concerts.

The previous year Selena become the first woman in Tejano music to win a Grammy award. And she even had a boutique clothing line in the works.

Last December Netflix released a series surrounding the early years of the singer’s life. In 2016 MAC created a make-up collection inspired by the singer, known for her daring bright red lips. The collection sold out in minutes, as did a second collection last April.

Her legacy is stronger than ever and continues to be a staple in today’s pop culture.
