HARRIS COUNTY– Several arrests were made last night after authorities say an illegal street racing bust took place in Houston
Harris County Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief Mike Lee tweeted out further details noting Traffic Crime Units made at least 43 arrests, one pursuit, had several cars towed, and guns were confiscated.
HCSO held a news conference earlier this week discussing efforts to end the illegal street racing events with emphasis on them being deadly.
The public is being asked to notify authorities if you run across any street racing incidents.
District Attorney Kim Ogg stressed the consequences drivers can face if they are caught participating in such events including charges ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, and those who cause deadly accidents can expect to face up to 20 years in jail as well as a fine of up to $10,000. Some will also be subject to their vehicle confiscated.
