HOUSTON – Today is ‘Go Texan Day‘ the unofficial kickoff day of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Typically held the Friday before the Rodeo begins, this day serves to encourage the Houston community to celebrate the Western heritage and raise awareness of Rodeo season.
Houston residents are encouraged to don their favorite Western attire, such as jeans, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats.
Due to the unfortunate continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Rodeo events were canceled for the second year in a row. However, the HLSR plans to still proceed with a virtual celebration.
The virtual Go Texan Day contest encourages organizations to host events that promote and celebrate the Rodeo and Texas culture. Participants can upload pictures and videos of their creative western-themed outfits or decor. Visit RODEOHOUSTON on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and tag your Go Texan photos using @RODEOHOUSTON and #GoTexanDay.
